2800 lbs of food donated to Salvation Army for local needy

Each November the library offers patrons an opportunity to pay overdue fines with a nonperishable food donation. This modified fines amnesty program, running for the month of November, brings overdue library materials back into the building, saves library patrons money, and generates substantial donations for area needy.

The four-week collection during November 2014 generated donations of an estimated 2800 lbs of food, which was turned over to the Rotary Club of Pittsfield, who delivered the items to our own Salvation Army for distribution.

We are gratified to have been part of this charitable initiative.
