We now have a MacBook Air laptop and an iPad for library patrons to borrow and use in the library for two hours, made possible by the Friends of the Berkshire Athenaeum.
The 11-inch MacBook Air laptop, characterized as the world’s thinnest notebook, is light weight, with a full size keyboard, and can be used for general Internet browsing or by those who want to familiarize themselves with the Apple interface and its various tools (TextEdit; iPhoto; iCal; Safari web browser).
An Apple iPad tablet-style computer is available to those who want to gain experience with the iOS operating system, multi-touch display and one of the hottest digital gadgets today’s market provides.
These two new devicess are the latest purchases made through the Technology Lending Service, an ongoing initiative fully funded by the Friends of the Berkshire Athenaeum. Patrons access the service through the Reference Department. Previous Friends’ purchases for the service include a variety of eBook reader models, loaded with eBook titles, which can be borrowed by patrons for one week.
