Berkshire Athenaeum reduces hours

In response to budget cuts, the Athenaeum has had to cut its service hours. Beginning September 1, the library will close at 5 pm on Monday evenings, reducing its weekly evening hours to the public year round.

Following a budget cut of $25,000 last year, Fiscal Year 2010 has  reduced the library books & materials account by an additional $25,000, causing  reduced spending for new bestsellers, books on CD, large print books, and other media.

Additionally, the Athenaeum has had to eliminate its afterschool, evening  and Saturday staffing in the Young Adults Department.
